Phoenix Mecano expands its solar business

Stein am Rhein/Kloten, 19 May 2010. Phoenix Mecano AG, a leading technology company in the enclosures and industrial components sector, is to acquire full ownership of Lohse GmbH, based in Muggensturm, Germany, with retroactive effect from 1 May 2010. Lohse GmbH is a leading manufacturer of special toroidal strip-wound cores, strip-wound cut cores and air-gap cores, whose applications include transformers and chokes for solar inverters. Through its subsidiary Datatel, Phoenix Mecano is already a major supplier of such transformers and chokes and expects to achieve sales of approximately €80 million in the photovoltaic components market this year (2009: €31 million). Lohse GmbH has been a steady supplier to Datatel for some years. Lohse GmbH employs 27 staff and posted total sales of €11 million in 2009. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The acquisition will provide Phoenix Mecano with key expertise and boost its competitiveness and innovative capacity in the increasingly important growth segment of photovoltaics. The lack of significant integration costs means that Lohse GmbH will start making a positive contribution to the company’s result this year.
