Phoenix Mecano in Stein am Rhein goes solar

The company's photovoltaic system supplies 65% of its annual electricity consumption.

Phoenix Mecano Komponenten AG in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, installed a photovoltaic system in 2021. Covering an area of 1 281 m2, the system generates enough power to meet around 65% of the company's annual electricity consumption.

The 676 modules deliver a maximum output of 263.64 kilowatts peak (kWp), producing around 220 000 kWh of electricity annually. This could supply 49 average four-person households in Switzerland with electricity for a whole year.

The 220 000 kWh of solar power now generated in-house saves around 86 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. To put this in context, it would take almost 3 000 trees to offset that amount of emissions.

As well as using the electricity in its operations, the company also plans to supply power to an electric vehicle charging station. Meanwhile, preparations have been made to install further charging stations.

And there is more usable roof space still available...
